Au.D. Doctor of Audiology, The University of Florida
M.S. Master's of Science, Audiology, The University of Alabama
B.S. Bachelor of Science, Communicative Disorders, The University of Alabama

  • State Licensed Audiologist: Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Also licensed as an audiologist in Mississippi, North Carolina, and Texas.
  • Nationally Certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation
  • A member of: American Academy of Audiology, Academy of Dispensing Audiologists, the American Tinnitus Association, Speech and Hearing Association of Alabama, and the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation 

The person most qualified to test hearing, assess hearing rehabilitation needs and order and fit hearing aids and assistive listening devices is an Audiologist.

An Audiologist has completed:

  • a 4 year Bachelor's degree (usually in Communication Sciences and Disorders)
  • a Post Graduate degree (at least a Master's degree) in Audiology
  • a Clinical Fellowship Year (a type of residency)
  • is Certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association
  • is Licensed by the State in which heshe practices (in this state The Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology)
  • must complete a minimum number of continuing education hours every year
  • some are also certified in Occupational Hearing Conservation

Audiologists usually belong to additional professional organizations such as:

  • State Speech and Hearing Organizations
  • American Academy of Audiologists
  • Academy of Dispensing Audiologists
