Services > Hearing Testing - All Ages It is the mission of Southeastern Hearing Services, Inc. to provide quality hearing healthcare to the Southeast through early identification, prevention, and rehabilitation of hearing loss. In order to fulfill this mission we are equipped to provide a full diagnostic test battery for patients of all ages using the latest technology. In order to understand what services you are getting and to be able to ask informed questions we are providing a list of the routine tests we conduct along with the definitions. Routine diagnostic tests available: Otoscopy - examination of the ear canal and eardrum. Video-otoscopy
- a specialized way to have the patient view the ear canal by way of a
video monitor. Puretone Assessment (Air and Bone) - this is the testing which produces data for the audiogram which graphically represents hearing thresholds. The air conduction testing tells about the entire hearing mechanism and the bone conduction testing tells about the hearing nerve only. Speech Recognition Testing - a test used to determine the lowest level the patient is able to hear speech Word Identification Assessment - a test used to determine a patient's ability to understand words and sentences Comfortable and Uncomfortable Loudness Tests - used to determine the levels at which speech is most comfortable to a particular listener. This is a test that is individualized and is very helpful in hearing aid fitting. After each diagnostic assessment you will be provided a thorough explanation of the test results and you will be able to have your questions answered. If you have a hearing loss, we will explain and discuss treatment options that fit your lifestyle. This is our guarantee. Specialized Services: In addition to routine diagnostic testing many of our patients see us for some specialized services. Below is a list of those services with a brief explanation.
Hearing Aid Fitting and Follow-up - Once hearing aids have been ordered they must be prescriptively fit to your individualized hearing loss. This may require periodic follow-up to fine-tune the settings of the hearing aids. All adjustments are enhanced through the use of the latest computer technology. Hearing Aid Repair Services - As with other technological devices, there may be a reason to have periodic cleanings or even repairs. We are equipped to perform most repairs in our office. There are two types of factory repairs that we help with as well - 1) in-warranty and 2) out of warranty. In both cases we will have the factory communicate what repair is needed so that we can monitor the successful repair. Earwax Removal and Management - Many of our patients have earwax problems that impede hearing or hearing aid functioning. We help those patients by providing a periodic earwax management plan that will keep the situation from becoming a significant problem Custom
Ear Plugs - Many people love the convenience of custom swimmer's ear
plugs or custom hearing protection. Most custom plugs can be made in our
office in less than 15 minutes.
